    Former U.S. Champion Buys a House

    Posted just as a curiosity: Back on November 22, 1949 the Brooklyn Daily Eagle's real estate section published the following article: 


    In today's dollars the price would be in the $192,000 to $262,000 price range. That's pretty high for those days; here are some statistics from 1949: 

    House: $14,500
    Car: $1,650 
    Gasoline: 26 cents/gal  
    Bread: 14 cents/loaf 
    Milk: 84 cents/gal 
    Average Annual Salary: $3,600 
    Minimum Wage: 40 cents per hour
