    Shortsgate – the Kovalyov Affair

     In case you haven't heard....

On September 9th, at the start of the third round of the FIDE World Cup 2017 Canadian GM Anton Kovalyov showed up before the round began wearing striped shorts, the same one that he had worn while playing rounds one and two. He was asked by ECU Preisdent Zurab Azmaiparashvili to adhere to the players' contract which mentions a dress code. After that Kovalyov ended up forfeiting his game. As usual, there are two sides to the story.
